In many countries, new items (especially if they come with their original packaging or receipts) may be considered commercial imports, which could result in additional costs. You must declare these goods on the inventory list that you will submit to customs authorities.

If you plan to bring new goods, look into the customs regulations of the country to which you are moving to avoid surprises. In some cases, it may be more practical to purchase these goods directly in the destination country to reduce costs and paperwork.

Usually you must be in the country to receive your move and for Customs to authorize the import. The international moving company will advise you accordingly depending on the country you are moving to.

If you have hired an international moving company, they will carry out the customs procedures on your behalf. You will need to sign a power of attorney or authorization for them to represent you at Customs. In exceptional cases, you may be required to be present during the customs inspection.
